"Water Is Life" Contest

El Paso Water’s TecH2O Center and La Nube are seeking entries for an art contest for elementary (2D art), middle (photos), and high school (video). Artwork selected in this contest will be exhibited at La Nube, the new children’s museum and science center, opening late summer in downtown El Paso. Top winners will receive La Nube giveaways, gift cards, tickets and recognition at a Chihuahuas game and the opportunity to have their artwork displayed at La Nube’s water exhibit. The theme of the contest is “Water is Life”, as interpreted by the artist, and can reflect themselves, their home, and/or their region.

HOW IS THE WINNER SELECTED? Submissions will be judged for compliance with contest Official Rules and Guidelines available for download below. Submissions that do not comply with the Official Rules and Guidelines will be disqualified. All other submissions will advance to the next round, where the artwork will be rated by a panel of judges based on message, creativity, and entertainment value. Finalists will be selected and notified via email during Drinking Water Week, by midnight on Monday, May 8th, 2023. Top awards in each category will be invited, with their families, to a Chihuahuas game in the 2023 season where their work will be celebrated and recognized on the field.

Awards will be provided for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each of the following divisions:
-Elementary School Division (Grades K-5) – two-dimensional artwork
-Middle School Division (Grades 6-8) – photo and message
- High School Division (Grades 9-12) - video
First place in each division will receive a $100 gift card and recognition at a Chihuahuas baseball game along with tickets, second will receive a $50 gift card and third will receive a $25 gift card. All awardees will also receive gift bags from la Nube.

Here are the guidelines:
ELEMENTARY (TWO-DIMENSIONAL ART) CONTEST:
HOW DO I ENTER? Create artwork using any listed two-dimensional medium –e.g. acrylic, watercolor, oils, markers, pencil, crayon, pastel, chalk, or scratchboard etching, or a combination of these. Artwork surface may be paper, canvas, artboard or scratchboard and must measure between 15”x15” and 20”x20”. Laminated artwork is not allowed. Artist name should not be on submission since judging will be blind. Submission may be mailed or delivered to the address below. You must also complete the form below and agree to the Official Rules and Guidelines available for download below. The contest is only open to students living in the Borderplex Region.

All entries must be delivered by 5:00pm MST on Thursday, April 6, 2023. Late entries will not be judged.

MIDDLE SCHOOL (PHOTO) CONTEST:
HOW DO I ENTER? Take a photo in square format, minimum 2500 x 2500 resolution. Along with the photo, submit a description not longer than 20 words. Description may describe the action in the photo, or it may be poetic or thoughtful. Artist name should not be on the submission since judging will be blind. Submission must be delivered and uploaded to this page and form below. You must also complete the form below and agree to the Official Rules and Guidelines available for download below. The contest is only open to students living in the Borderplex Region.

All entries must be uploaded to this page by 5:00pm MST on Thursday, April 6, 2023. Late entries will not be judged. A confirmation email will let you know that your entry was received.

HIGH SCHOOL (VIDEO) CONTEST:
HOW DO I ENTER? Create a video between 30 and 60 seconds, and submit it by uploading to this link.

You must complete the form below and agree to the Official Rules and Guidelines available for download below. You must also get a signed appearance consent and release form for each video participant (available for download below). Signed appearance and consent release forms from all video participants should be sent to ksalazar@la-nube.org. The contest is only open to students living in the Borderplex Region.

All video entries must be uploaded to this page with consent form sent to ksalazar@la-nube.org by 5:00pm MST on Thursday, April 6, 2023. Late entries will not be judged. A confirmation email will let you know that your entry was received.

VIDEO REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Video must be between 30 and 60 seconds in length, no credits.
  2. Videos shall be in a square format (1:1 ratio. similar to Instagram).
  3. Video shall be 1080 x 1080 pixels minimum resolution.
  4. Focal point of video shall be at or near the center of the screen. Videos shall be displayed in a circular window at the museum, so action that occurs at the corners does not appear.
  5. No profane language, or material not appropriate for a children’s museum.
  6. All contestants agree not to make any commercial use of those portions of their submissions which use EPWater or La Nube trademarks without prior written approval from EPWater or La Nube.
  7. No copyrighted music, video, or images may be used in the video.
  8. No violating copyright laws or using brand names or logos other than EPWater, TecH2O, or La Nube in your video. You agree to indemnify EPWater and La Nube for any claim, demand, judgment, or other allegation arising from your possible violation of someone’s trademark, copyright, or other legally protected interest in any way in your video.
  9. Your video may not contain any endorsement, solicitation, commercial, or similar content advocating for or against candidates for office, political issues, or commercial products.
  10. Your video must be original content for this contest. Do not submit a video that has been submitted elsewhere.
  11. Obtain signed appearance and consent release forms from all video participants and send to ksalazar@la-nube.org. Videos submitted without release forms will be disqualified.
  12. Videos must follow the theme – “Water is Life,” and be filmed within our region.
